After much hard work we can proudly say that the doors of Artisans Way, A Fine Art and Contemporary Craft Gallery, are open at 18 Walden Street, right in the heart of historic downtown Concord.

While new art and incredible crafts are arriving daily, we none the less opened the space to all the passers by who have been waving and giving us thumbs up for the past month. There has been such a warm welcome from the community with a real outpouring of interest and genuine wishes for success. We couldn't be happier at our new location.

The grand opening with festivities will be at the end of October with dates to be announced. Join us for our 15th annual Fountain Street Open Studios from April 8-10. Hours will be Friday from 5:30 to 9 pm and Saturday & Sunday from 11-5. Over 50 studio artists and guests will be open. Plus there is a new gallery located on the first floor, FOUNTAIN STREET FINE ARTS.

I have been lucky to have a painting, Pippi and Hans, installed at the Floating Hospital for Children this past winter. This was a new venture for me and the most rewarding in my art career. The painting of a goose and gosling came to mind out of my love for childrens' literature and I collaged images from some of my favorite books into the mother goose's wing and also added lines of text into the snow beneath their feet. I hope that it will invite young patients and staff to ponder the clues to see if they can identify the books hidden in the painting. Giclees of Pippi and Hans will be available during open studios with 50% of the proceeds going to Floating Hospital for Children right here in Boston.

This spring, I was asked by Gianna Bird of Silver Moon Desings to collaborate on a jewelry line using my art images. Images of the jewelry can be seen on line at http://silvermoondesigns.biz We will be offering a selection of jewelry at the sale.

Remember that everything in the studio is offered at Special Studio Prices, so come and toast the end of the snow while supporting One World Women's Health in their mission to build a maternity clinic in Sierra Leone. I am donating 20% of my art sales to OWWH during this open studio event. For more informationhttp://www.oneworldwomenshealth.org/

Holliston Mills Open Studio

October 24 and 25

Holliston Mill invites you to join us for the 2010 Open Studios event
where we welcome the public into our work spaces to view our recent work.
The 2010 Open Studios will be held on the weekend of October 23rd & 24th.
You will meet resident and guest artists, learn about their process and inspirations and hopefully find a connection to the vibrant arts community we have here in Holliston.

Hours
Saturday, October 23rd 10am - 4pm
Sunday, October 24th 11am - 4pm

The weekend is filled with great conversation, refreshments, music and perhaps the perfect piece to add to your collection. I never really thought about it before and really had to pause to think of what the person was asking. I think when people see all of the colors in my paintings they might assume that I use some really exotic brand of acrylic that comes in hundreds of shades. And while I do use Daniel Smith (and they do seem to come in oodles of colors), I tend to stick to a very basic palette.

First I draw my image in charcoal on canvas. That is pretty much all of the black that will be used. On my palette I will have Titanium White, Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Rose, Hansa Yellow Deep, Sap Green, Ultramarine Blue, and Pthalo Green. The rest is all experimental mixing. The blue and rose make a beautiful purple, add white for great lavender shades. Pthalo Green acts as my “black” if you will but you have to be careful with amounts. I add it to the aforesaid purple to make a deeper plum version. Blue and Pthalo (just a tad) with white makes a lovely turquoise. I could go on and on. But the starting palette choices are rather minimal but playing with them is all the fun.

For a closer look at Mayan Dream, stop by our big 14th Annual Fountain Street Open Studio Event (April 9-11).
